Music Advertising Lot

About this work

This Music Advertising Lot comprises three limited edition prints from the 2010s that revisit and reinterpret historical music advertising tied to African American artists and labels. Two prints focus on Paramount Records’ promotion of blues pioneer Blind Lemon Jefferson, including designs that tout “Black Snake Moan No. 2” and encourage readers of the Chicago Defender to watch for Jefferson’s new Paramount release, echoing period typography and layout. The third print highlights Black Patti Records, celebrating the label’s roster of Black vocalists and ensembles through a text‑heavy design with engraved‑style portraits and promotional copy that mirrors early twentieth‑century record‑company advertising. Each print measures 16" x 20" and is hand‑numbered out of an edition of 80, positioning the set as contemporary fine‑art tributes to historical ephemera rather than vintage originals, with crisp linework and virtually unused condition. Within The Askia Jones Collection, these works bridge poster art, music history, and Black cultural memory, underscoring how modern artists and printers engage with archival source material to honor and re‑circulate the legacy of early Black recording artists and race labels.
